Pulses

Peas, beans and lentils are collectively classified into a group called pulses. With approximately 13,000 species, the family Leguminosae is the second largest in the plant kingdom and it is very important economically. Pulses are rich in protein, carbohydrate and fiber, and low in fat which is mostly of the unsaturated kind.

Pulses refer to the dried, edible seeds of certain leguminous plants, including various types of beans, lentils, chickpeas, and peas. Pulses are an important source of protein and other nutrients in many diets around the world. The trade of pulses involves the buying and selling of these commodities on the global market.
